VANDEVENTER This community was greatly shocked last Sunday evening when it became known that Mr. George VanDeventer had departed this life at his home in this city, after a few days illness with an acute attack of Bright's disease, aged 42 years. Mr. VanDeventer was one of LeRoy's prominent and well to do citizens and returned from his business last Wednesday night complaining of sickness and rapidly declined to the end. The deceased was a native of DeWitt county, where he lived until twelve years ago, when he located in LeRoy with his mother. He was the son of the late James VanDenventer, who died in 1881. He was an extensive landowner and his holdings in this city were also large. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Pabitha (sic) VanDenventer, of this city; and three brothers, Charles, of Yale, Ia.; Melvin, of Panora, Ia.; and Walter, of Heyworth. All of the brothers were with him at the hour of death. Mr. VanDenventer never married. Last summer he built a fine residence in LeRoy. Lately he has been actively engaged in the management of the Cement Brick and Block works here. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church last Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. S. Dancey, of Chicago, assisted by Rev. C. M. Barton. The attendance was very large, the I.O.O.F. attending in a body, and had charge of the exercises. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Grove cemetery. LeRoy (IL) Journal, Friday, 27 May 1910
