He together with his twin brother, John F. Stroh, was baptized soon after his birth, and later instructed in the doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed in the saME Church of his home town. He engaged in farming, which occupation he followed until about 14 years ago, when he retired. For four years he served as a soldier in the German Army and took part in the Franco-Prussian war, 1870 - 1871. In June, 1871, he returned home from France and in the spring of 1873 he emigrated to the US, at first settling at Danvers, Il., and some time later moved to the neighborhood of Anchor, Il. Soon after his arrival, his brother Andrew, his mother, his sister Anna and his brother John and family, also came to America, settling in Anchor Twp. He was married to Miss Wiebke Jacobsen 3-21- 1875. After some years he moved to Creighton, Neb., where his wife died. With his six children: Andreas H. Stroh m. Katherine Struve Anna M. Stroh m. Fred Siebert Carl R. Stroh m. Martha Stubbe F.J. Adolph Stroh m. Olga Ackert Adelia Stroh m. Ernest Gehl Amanda Stroh m. Albert Trimmer he returned from Creighton, to a farm in Anchor Twp, where he had lived ever since with the exception of a few years. He was married for the second time to Miss Emilie Hornke, 9-23-1888 in McLean Co. Herman Edward Stroh m. Dora K. Hensen Wilhelm A.A. Stroh Augusta Bertha Stroh m. Johnson Mr. Stroh was one of the 34 first members of the St. John's Lutheran Church who were the organizers of the congregation in the year of 1877, and he served the congregation as trustee for several terms. He enjoyed good health until his old age. When he received a telegram from Camp Mills, NY, in October 1918, announcing the illness of his son Wiliam, who served as a soldier in the US Army, Mr. Stroh and his wife and son Carl hastened to the hospital there to see him, but William had passed away before they arrived at Camp Mills. July 27th of this year Mr. Stroh celebrated his 75th birthday. At that time nobody realized that his end was so close. A very severe case of heart trouble started which caused him much suffering. Sunday morning, Aug 31st, he with his wife and children partook of holy communion. Sunday morning his brother Andrew of American Falls, Idaho arrived for a visit and he surely was very much pleased to see him again. Thursday 9-11-1919 he passed away, aged 75 years, one month, 15 days. Those who preceded him in death are as follows: his father and mother, two brothers and two sisters, his first wife and his son, William. Those who mourn his death are his wife and the following children: Henry Stroh, Mrs. Fred Siebert, Carl Stroh, Adolph Stroh, Mrs. Ernest Gehl, Miss Amanda Stroh, Herman Stroh, Mrs. Otto Heckens, Reinhold Stroh, Miss Elsie Stroh, Miss Martha Stroh and Albert Stroh, many grandchildren, his brother Andrew and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were at the home and at St. John's Church, Rev. A. Hahn officiated. The church was filled with sorrowing friends of the deceased.
