File Submitted by: Deb Haines, ddhaines@gmail.com Date Submitted: April 29, 2007 Source: Cook County Herald, Dec 17, 1909 ***************************************************************** Cook County Herald, Arlington Heights IL Dec 17, 1909 Isaac Funk Killed by Train Big Illinois Land Owner Meets Death at Bloomington Isaac Funk, Sr., was killed by a fast express train from Kansas City, at Funk's Grove, a small station on the Chicago and Alton, eight miles south of Bloomington. Mr. Funk was at the station waiting for a local train on which to come to Bloomington. The express was late and came through about the time the local was due. Mr. Funk tried to cross the tracks ahead of the express and was killed. He was the youngest son of Isaac Funk, who has been selected for the "Hall of Fame" at the University of Illinois, and was born in McLean county in 1843. He was engaged extensively in farming and stock raising, and owns several thousand acres of the finest farm land in the State. He was an uncle of Senator Frank H. Funk.
